ICADV was selected in October as one of more than 160 participating nonprofits across the country to be a part of the Purple Purse Challenge, which raises funds for nonprofits serving domestic violence victims. ICADV was chosen for its commitment to providing financial empowerment services to domestic violence survivors. During the month (Domestic Violence Awareness Month), ICADV raised $1,000 and received a “bonus” gift from the Foundation for another $1,000. Thanks to all who participated!
With their HopeLine Project, Verizon Wireless collects no longer used wireless phones, batteries, chargers and accessories in any condition from any service provider to benefit victims and survivors of domestic violence. Verizon donates wireless phones, complete with voice and text capabilities, to local domestic violence shelters and non-profit organizations and agencies for use by victims and survivors. These phones serve as a vital link to support services and provide a safe line of communication to family, loved ones and employers. Other items are recycled and the proceeds are turned into valuable financial support for domestic violence awareness and prevention initiatives. You can bring your items to ICADV and we’ll get them to the HopeLine Project.
The 2015 National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) Census of Domestic Violence Services began today at 8 am. This is a 24 hour census that collects data from all ICADV member domestic violence shelters in the state. It is the census used to develop the Domestic Violence Counts Census Report. This is the only national report that outlines the amazing work of advocates and points to the need for more resources and funding. This report is an outstanding advocacy tool used at the Federal, State and local level. Indiana has had 100% census participation from programs for the last three years and we’re working to meet that goal again.
