IMPD tries new strategy to prevent domestic violence deaths

Michael Williams was standing in the driveway of a Northwestside home when police pulled up to investigate what had been reported as a domestic disturbance.

Williams, 54, led officers inside. On a bed lay his girlfriend of 20 years, Karen Terew, 56.

She was unconscious, her eyes were black and blue, brownish bruises puffed her face, and her blouse was soiled dark red. Drops of blood speckled Williams’ tan pants.

“I get into it all the time with her,” he told police.

This would be the last time.
